Doris, the owner of SIm’s Kitchen, grew up in Penang - a Malaysian state renowned for its street food and hawker centres being one of the greatest in Asia and had six years of experience as a vendor selling ‘char kway teow’ which is a local popular dish. This is no easy feat as Penang street food is highly competitive among its corresponding rivals. Her skills were taught by her older brother who spent more than 20 years operating a street stall selling ‘char kway teow’ traditionally with charcoal fire. Doris is pleased to be able to share her hometown’s cuisine after her settlement in New Zealand with her family in hopes of better life opportunities and child education.
Sim’s Kitchen has seen success in the growing number of supportive patrons which Doris is grateful for, and she hopes it will grow by allowing Jonathan, her son, to develop new concepts with his experience and team of talents to create new opportunities.
Jonathan worked under Doris in the kitchen for the past few years and has cultivated his passion for the culinary industry along with many prior years of experience in hospitality - from a bartender of a Japanese restaurant to a bar manager for a Michelin-star restaurant in Ginza, Tokyo.
The team at Sim's Kitchen are incredibly passionate about bringing our delicious dishes to all our customers.
